A monumental statement in architecture, Munich's BMW World is one in a new generation of 21st-century communication structures. Like a chunk of open city under one roof, it houses both a showroom and an events center. It also serves as the central delivery point for people from all over the world to pick up their new BMWs in person. A tangible link between car and architecture and material and creativity, BMW World represents the harmonious union between state-of-the-art technology and optimum use of resources.
A Superlative Building. Its mighty roof boasts an impressive total area of 16,500 sqm, comprising an innovative steel structure in the form of a double cone and - although it is about ten times as big as the Acropolis - just eleven additional articulated columns. Its edifice is composed of 55,000 cbm of concrete, 15,000 sqm of glass frontage and 1,154 rooms. The structure’s double cone is a true symbol of the changed architectural debate, its archaic dictate of beams and supports replaced by free forms, creating fantastic spatial landscapes. It is in every respect a superlative structure - even in terms of its sanitary zones, which span diverse areas such as lounges, restaurants, shops and showrooms. Each of these unique spaces reflects the language of modern design through the implementation of Duravit sanitaryware.
